mfc '72 Boyhood Photos Of The Stars & Stuff

A '72 mfc wax pack can only mean one thing.
'72 mfc cards!

Sometimes you see a photo and right away you know what you want to do with it. When it come's to childhood pictures I always think of Topps 1972 Boyhood Pictures Of The Stars cards. There were three Mets in that side dish.

  The Ultimate Mets Database
created this "Boyhood Photos" card for their Daniel Murphy page.>
What a great photo! Murph hasn't changed a bit. He was always stupid looking. Ha! Kidding Dan. You look incredibly intelligent there, and very proud of your crossing guard badge.

I made a few Boyhood cards for the '72 page and I always intended to make more but I haven't gotten around to it. But, like I said, when I see a picture of a player as a kid, it's usually the first thing that I want to do. I saw this photo of Michael Conforto in today's New York Daily News and right away went for the old '72 mfc folder of card borders.

Yep. Sometimes you find the perfect picture and it dictates what you create. After I started this post I ran into these old/young photos of David Wright and Michael Cuddyer.
Cuddyer was on the Mets!

And sometimes you're making it up as you go along and that makes for a special mfc Season Set card.

Sometimes you find a photo and you save it thinking that someday you'll figure out a way to use it. And so it was with this photo of Bartolo Colon.

Sometimes, in this crazy internet world, you run into a dick-pic and you're like: AHHHH how do I unsee that! But it's too late.

And sometimes you see your little boy grow up to be a fine young man. The biggest and brightest star. And believe it or not, he's more amazin' than the New York Mets.

Please visit the new
facebook page and if you like it, "like it".

I will be releasing the postseason cards from there if all goes according to plan. I also hope to conduct some fan based polls and things of that nature.

Coming up sometime in the future will be player awards for the 2015 season. I'm in the process of taking the pulse of Mets nation to see how others feel and who they support.
I might save this til after the postseason.

Yea, the postseason...

mfc CELEBRATES Mets GM Sandy Alderson!!!

Mets have come long way from Panic City thanks to Sandy Alderson

I planned on doing up the Captain next but I've had a change of heart. I read Mike Lupica's column today (linked above) about Sandy Alderson and I thought, he's right. I should have done a salute to Sandy before I started on the team. And Mr. Lupica, you will be missed on the NYDN sports pages.

What can you say about Sandy Alderson?
He said he was out to revive the Mets.
We salute you!

Great job Mr. Sandy Alderson.

Remember this one below?
When this was posted we had just lost Harvey to TJS and Alderson went out and got Curtis Granderson for Christmas. From Colon to Granderson to Cespedes Sandy has carefully built a team that could take us all the way.

David Wright has been bumped for now.
Next up will be the 2015 mfc Mets Most Valuable Player of the Year. Can you guess who that would be?

There will be a new page of cards covering the Mets clinching game in Cincinnati coming up before the regular seasons end.

What's this? Disharmony in Nat land? Awww, what a shame.

Thanks Bryce. You're alright!

>>>>mfc Celebrates Terry Collins!!!

I'm making a series of these to keep us pumped between now and game one.

I won't be able to make one for every player between now and then but I don't think there's any debate that David Wright gets the nod next.

mfc Magic Number Countdown!!! •1•!!!!!!!

Thanks Dude!!

mfc Magic Number Countdown!!! •2•!!!!!!!

mfc Magic Number Countdown!!! •3• Bud Harrelson

Okay, I'm getting a bit excited.
And I've stopped worrying.
New York won tonight and Washington lost.
The Mets magic number is now 3!

I'm very superstitious when it comes to baseball. Not in regards to anything else in life, but pretty much insanely so when it comes to the New York Mets. I wasn't going to do a countdown thing here but my excitement has gotten the best of me. We're 7½ up with 10 games to play. I think I can relax.

I know there are many more Metropolitan #3's but Bud Harrelson is one of my all time favorite Mets and I happen to have made a slew of cards featuring him. Buddy was the first Mets player I ever had a conversation with back in 1970 or '71, out back behind Shea when the team was boarding a bus.

And as of this writing Harrelson is also the last Mets player I have ever conversed with. About a dozen or so years ago I saw him after a game when he was managing the Long Island Ducks. His team was in Atlantic City to play the A.C. Surf .

Mr. Harrelson has always made himself very accessible to fans and he is a very special Metropolitan. So I'll use any excuse to celebrate the career of Derrel McKinley "Bud" Harrelson. There could have been more. I only showed the Bud cards that displayed his #3.

Okay, I have one Granderson up my sleeve.

What's the opposite of a rare relic card? There are 60 million of these!

For details of last night's Mets win against the Reds

Another reason to be excited, from a hobby standpoint, is that I get to design  borders for post season cards. Mets postseason cards! And because of my superstitious nature when it comes to the Mets I felt I should not even think about anything to do with the postseason cards until after New York clinches. I haven't started yet, still feel a little hesitant about it, but I'm hoping to very, very soon.
Gimme another win New York!

Back in 2006 I made postseason cards during the games and posted them on a Mets fan message board/in game thread as the game progressed. That was an enormous amount of fun and I plan on doing that this year (if possible and able) using facebook. Worst case scenario is I'll post them here after the game is over.
More details about that after we clinch.

Here are some of the cards from back then. I won't post them all as there were 88 of them. But here's a taste. Funny how I decided to go with multiple borders.

Back then I thought we had a few more trips to the post in us with that team.

It's been nine long years.
Get pumped!

Get VERY pumped!
