It could have been worse. Harvey pitched well enough. He didn't bleed from the nose or any other appendage. His arm didn't fall off. He had good velocity. It was great seeing him on the mound again for the Mets.
K.C. Starter Volquez was amped early and New York could not take advantage. As a matter of fact, we did the opposite and played right into his hands. Two hits?!? Come on guys!
Colon and Blevins gave us some nice relief blanking the Royals for 2.1 innings so that much worked.
The horrendous home plate umpiring (both ways) is no excuse but it was remarkable and did change the flow of the game a number of times. We almost came back and I wish I had a nickle for every time I've said that watching the Mets.
Cespedes, if you want to stylize and not use two hands that's fine with me. But you better catch the freakin' ball! You're giving Harvey a complex. Oy!
d'Arnaud, you can't let a pitch that close get past you.
The two pitches to David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes that are included in the .gif are not a knock on them. Yoenis had some nice at-bats and his at bat in the 9th was a good one. He just got beat. Wright is still not up to speed. I'm sure his delayed start this spring is a factor and in a few weeks he'll be swinging a better bat.
K.C.'s closer Wade Davis, after starting out a bit rocky and allowing the tying run to reach third with one out in the bottom of the 9th, threw two beautiful pitches in crucial spots that shut us down. Game over.
It's all here in mfc's The Game In A .Gif Card #1 , game one.
I'd love to do this every game. A .gifcard (Gamegif?) review of each game would be an excellent thing to have but I doubt I can keep up.
I'll try though.
Mets face the Royals for game two of 2016 this afternoon.
Thor will go up against the Tall Texan.
Lets Split!!
LETS GO METS!!!
